The Phyllis Cottle Scholarship

The Akron Blind Center, “The Place Where Good Happens”, is proud to introduce Summit County’s first ever scholarship fund
for the visually impaired.

This annually presented award is to promote higher education for Summit County’s blind and legally blind students. The Akron Blind Center was established to promote education, outreach, social and recreational activities, as well as to support the independence of people who are blind and legally blind in Summit and adjoining counties.

Our scholarship fund began with donations from the members of the Akron Blind Center when they realized how hard our community’s blind students were striving toward an accomplished future.

At the 2015 White Cane Walk, the third scholarship presented by the Akron Blind Center was awarded to Joseph Chadbourne, a 2013 graduate of the Firestone High School who attends the University of Akron with the goal of becoming an Actuary. Mr. Chadbourne accomplished numerous academic and extra curricular goals during his high school career and we wish him continued success at the University of Akron where he now earns in excess of a 3.5 GPA.

With this goal in mind, we would be grateful for any contribution. Please, help the Akron Blind Center in the realization of dreams for the visually impaired students in our community.

Thank you for your consideration.
